Bradford (59)
A short series of photos taken around Bradford city centre in March 2010. Since the recession, there has been an increase in the number of discount stores. The city also seems to have more amusement arcades than the average coastal resort. Due to UK laws, amusement arcades here always have the most bizarre window displays, which I have been cataloguing. Also there is a housing estate due for demolition, which has become a magnet for junkies & prostitutes. -
Chechen Refugee Camp (22)
8th Nov 2009. Fenerbahçe, Istanbul, Turkey. A refugee camp for people who fled conflict in Chechnya. The people are denied Turkish state benefits and also the right to work, leaving them in abject poverty. The camp is by the sea, where cold winters and damp has affected the refugees' health, many of the children suffer asthma and other breathing ailments. Although born in Turkey, the children are effectively state-less and fall between the cracks of international law. -
Istanbul Highlights (25)
4-10th November. Istanbul, Turkey. A selection of some of my favourite images shot in 2009 at the iStockphoto editorial iStockalypse with Getty Images. More to follow. -
Leeds bin strike (20)
Photos of Leeds showing the effects of the bin strike. The strike began on 7th September 2009 and these images were taken in its fifth week. This is the mainly student area of Hyde Park, which seems particularly badly hit. -
Piers Browne (35)
I spent a wonderful day in the Yorkshire Dales with a very talented artist called Piers Browne. Piers creates brilliant romantic landscape paintings but also produces fantastic etchings too. He was being filmed for a documentary about his life and work, so I tagged along to try an capture some of his personality and passion for landscapes.
