Editorial > Chechen Refugee Camp

8th Nov 2009. Fenerbahçe, Istanbul, Turkey. A refugee camp for people who fled conflict in Chechnya. The people are denied Turkish state benefits and also the right to work, leaving them in abject poverty. The camp is by the sea, where cold winters and damp has affected the refugees' health, many of the children suffer asthma and other breathing ailments. Although born in Turkey, the children are effectively state-less and fall between the cracks of international law.
